Healthy Parks Healthy People Global

A key outcome of the 2010 International Healthy Parks Healthy People Congress in Melbourne was to create an independent entity that advocates the health benefits of contact with nature on a global scale.

Healthy Parks Healthy People Global (HPHP Global) was created in October 2010 as a not for profit social enterprise that champions the benefits of contact with nature.

It aims to be the foremost ‘enabler’ in the world of health programs in parks that enrich the health of individuals and communities – physically, mentally, socially and economically – while protecting biodiversity.

Vision

HPHP Global to be recognised as the world leading organisation that promotes the integral link between nature and human health.

Mission

Healthy Parks Healthy People Global’s mission is:

To improve the health outcomes of communities through increasing their contact with nature, by:

• developing and enabling delivery of programs that connect people and nature;
• enabling the development and dissemination of research related to the link between human health and contact with nature; and
• advocating, creating and managing collaborative relationships to support programs that connect people and nature.

HPHP Global will achieve its mission of improving the health outcomes of communities through increasing their use and level of activity in parks and open spaces.

By being a ‘broker,’ HPHP Global will bring together health program funders, corporate sponsors and program delivery partners.

HPHP Global will enable excellence in research related to health and nature and its programs will be integral to this research.

Board of Directors

Rob Gerrand (Chair) – Principal, Gerrand and Associates, Melbourne, Australia.
Rob is a Director of the Mental Health Research Institute, a former Chair of Parks Victoria and a former Director of Alfred Health.

David Mabunda – Chief Executive, South Africa National Parks, Pretoria, South Africa.

Greg Moore – Executive Director, Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, California, U.S.A.

Trevor Sandwith – Head Global Protected Area Programme, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Geneva, Switzerland.

Mark Stone – Chief Executive, Victoria Employers Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Melbourne, Australia. Mark is a former Chief Executive of Parks Victoria.
